Résumé,

The present work deals with the Impact of Emotional Abuse and Self-esteem on the acquisition of Spoken English : The case of second form arts students in some selected schools in Cibitoke province. It was conducted in seven selected schools with a sample of 150 respondents who were randomly selected.
It concerned itself with finding out the relationship between emotional abuse and self-esteem and their impact on the acquisition of spoken English.

The aim of this study was to investigate whether there is any relationship between emotional abuse and self-esteem and their impact on the acquisition of spoken English. The following research questions were formulated :
- What is the relationship between emotional abuse self-esteem ?
- What are the socio-cultural factors that affect self-esteem for learners of English as a second language in speaking English ?
- What is the impact of emotional abuse and self-esteem on the acquisition of spoken English ?

After the analysis of the data, it was discovered that there is a positive relationship between emotional abuse and self-esteem. It was also found out that the family and school are some of the socio-cultural factors which affect the learners of English as a second language in speaking English. Moreover, this study revealed that self-esteem empowers the acquisition of spoken English while emotional abuse hinders it.

Finally, based on the finding of this work, the researcher made some recommendation to whom it may concern for the purpose of raising self-esteem for learners of English as a second language so that they acquire the spoken English effectively.
