RÉSUME,

This work aims at investigating the Franch Interference in English writing skill at the Upper Level of Burundi Secondary Schools precisely in First Form Arts section, in Karusi Province. It also aims at explaining the occurrence of French interference errors in English writing skill by using the predictions of Contrastive Analysis (CA) between French and English languages in terms of writing aspects. Also, the Error Analysis Hypothesis (EAH) will help to know, to find out the major kinds of errors in English writing made by First From learners are due to French interference. The research was conducted on the basis of three research questions parallel wich threeresearch hypotheses. First, it was to know if the French language interferes with the learning of English while secondly much concern was on knowing if thr major kinds of errors in English writing skill made by First Form learners due to French interference. Lastly, it was to know the rough strategies to use to avoid the occurrence of French interference errors in Burundi First Form learners writing skill of English. moreover, learners' questionnzire was handed in to the respondents to collect data. To carry out the investigation, the researcher used a written questionnaire ( close-ended questions and open questionnaire) to learnersto help him to collect more data about French interference erros in English writing skill. As a result, the researcher found out that First From Arts learners of English in Burundi secondary schools are influenced a lot by the French language in their writing skill of English. Also, the literal French translation and the lack of mastery of vocabulary and grammatical structures are the most common errors in Fist From Arts learners writing skill of English. In addition, the occurrence of French words into English is due to the fact that there is a their target language. The writing of French words in English writing skill by First Form learners is an evide,ce of the low achievement in English language acquisition by Burundian English learners. The best strategy to avoid French interference in Burundi First Form Arts learners writing skill is to develop their way of thinking in English and to reiforce their lexical and grammatical knowledge of English through various English books and pratical exercises of writing skills. Finally, suggestions were formulated and addressed to the Government, teachers, learners and further researchers.
