RESUME,

This study entilted "ASSESSMENT OF TECHNIQUES CURRENTLY USED IN TEACHING ENGLISH VOCABULARY:A case study of fifth form in selected Basic schools in Gisuru commune" aims at finding out the way English vocabulary is taught in fifth Form of Gisuru Commune.The work is pridicaded on the assumptions that there is no appropriate technique used for an easy understanding of English vocabulary on one hand and the insufficiency of teaching materials needd for such a task on the other hand.No particular emphasis is put on the contextualization of English words when teaching vocabulary .The researcher selected 5 schools randomly from west to east of Gisuru commune :Gisuru communal Lycée,Ntende communal Lycée,Gihanga communal lycée,kavumwe communal lycéee.Muvumu communal Lycée ,Muvumu communal Lycée.On those schools,both the classroom observation was made and the questionnaire were given to five teachers,fie headmasters and 30 learners.The data were analysed and interpreted using tables and percentages for better understanding.Based on previous works on teaching English language in fifth form in particular ,this work contributes in shedding light on the state of affairs in our Fifth form classes in Gisuru Commune at present.The researchjer discovers that English is not properly taught in the fifth form as a result of some identified problems.Based on the findings of this work,the researcher puts forwards some recommendations to the stakeholders in education in order to alleviate the identified problems.As recommendations addressed to program designers,headmasters ,learners and teachers ;the researcher proposed taht specific program for each degree and each class in particular should be elaborated.Many seminars for the english teachers should be organized,relevant techniques should be provided in the teachers'guide.The time of teaching/learning english vocabulary should be increased.
To try adapt the material at the disposal to teach vocabulary effeciently,to be creative and to use appropriate methods and techniques.
