Résumé,

This study was carried out to establish the effect of part-time teaching on teacher effectiveness in secondary schools. It was carried out from eight selected private secondary schools in Kanyosha, Bujumbura city wich were purposively selected for the study.

Data were collected aminly through the use of self-administered questionnaires and interviews. Documentary review of part-time teaching and teacher effectiveness world-wide and Burundi in particular was also done to supplement the primary data. The study involved one hundred and seventy-six (176) respondents of whom one hundred and twenty (120) were students, forty-eight (48) teachers, and eight (8) headmasters. These were selected using systematic random sampling, simple random sampling, and purposive sampling respectively. The study findings revealed that part-time teaching exist in private secondary schools, which result into poor teachers' performance and resourcefulness, low students' academic achievement, and poor quality educational attainment. From the study findings, a number of conclusions and recommendations were made, and finally areas for further research are suggested.
