RESUME,
This thesis entitled "A sociolinguistic interpretation of traditional Burundian work songs" examined the problems faced by many Kirundi language speakers in understanding the message loaded in traditional Burundian work songs.I tried to interpret some of those songs and showed how the change within Kirundi language has affected the understanding of the message that traditional Burundian work sons contain.In the analysis chapter,translation from Kirundi to english of some traditional Burundian worl songs was provided for the reader and their interpratation was made to show the specific message that these traditional Burundian work songs contain.However,despite the fact that these work songs contain a specific message to the people ;we find that the indirect way of speaking used by the traditional Burundians in these songs constitutes an impediment to the undrstanding of the message they contain for many speakers of kirundi language .The analysis of those songs was made for the reader to have the message loaded in them in order to give the reader the general idea of the songs.
