RESUME,

This wprk entilted:"Factors Hindering the oral communicative comperence among day-school English language learners :A study conducted in First year Language section of selected Post-schools in Bugendana commune" aims to identify the main causes of post-Basic school decline of the oral communicative competence among English learners.A number of factors were raised and reviewed but the researcher put much emphasis on "the students' attitude towards English,the lack of the English speaking community,the inadequancy of teaching methods and tecniques and the absence of teaching materials for teaching the English speaking skill"For this purpose,three hypotheses were formulated about the causes of the low English communicative competence,namely(i) the attitude of the students towards the english language.(ii) the ignorance of appropriate techniques and strategies used in English teaching.(iii) the lack of suitable comprising 61 informants from nine schools in Bugendana commune,Gitega province,was selected by using the cluster method.As instruments,the researcher used the questionnaires for both teachers and students ,along with field observation.After analyzing the data collect,the researcher found out the following:the attitude of the students was positive towards English and had no effect on the oral communicative competence.However,the lack of a favorable speech community along with the inappropriate teaching methods and techniques,and insufficient teaching materials are the major factors that handicap the development of oral commune.Hence,the reseacher decided the recommendations to the concerned parteners such as the teachers,the Ministry of Education,future researchers and the learners themselves in order to boost the students' oral development of communicative competence.
