Résumé,

The present work dealt with a Sociolinguistic study of the jargon used by Rutana Communal Lycée pupils. This study aims at discovering the jargon used by Rutana Cmmunal Lycée and it intends to show the changes of meaning of different words and expressions which is more social than linguistic. It sought to analyze the linguistic mechanisms used in the creation of jargon, the semantic analysis of the created words, the stylistic devices used in the created words and the domains of life referred to by the collected jargon words.

The data was collected by using the following procedures, class observation and questionnaire.

In addition, the simple random sampling method was used in selecting informants. After collecting data and analyzing them, the researcher found that the linguistic mechanisms used in the creation of jargon are the following : meaning change, borrowing, comparison, coinage, reduplication and acronym.

In addition, the words and expressions that constitute pupils' jargon were analyzed on semantic level. Also, the language created by pupils is full of figures of speech. Rutana Communal Lycée pupils are motivated to create words and expressions from five domains such as school, physical description, sexual, social life and general realities.

The data analysis showed that pupils' jargons are drawn from ordinary languages such as Kirundi,French, Kiswahili and English.
