RESUME

English is an international language that is widely spoken today. It is so because of the role player by the nations using English and their influence in international affairs,in busines,in science and in technology. The topic:Promoting Classroom Conversational practice a key to the Teaching of the speaking skill:case of some public secondary schools in Bujumbura city was corried out with the objective of increasing oral communication abilities among today's pupils. It has been noticed in Burundi that although English is taught and used by intellectuals, the latter have not been able to communicate fully in this language maily in its spoken form. This is due to the lack of pactice in the classroom and out side of it and even at early stage.

Basic findings from informants (teachers of English) collected from different schools located in Bujumbura city have proved that teachers generally focus on other skills (writing, reading and listening) and neglect speaking while teaching. The same findings have also shown the lack of appropriate materials to stimulate learners to speak in stead of having syllabuses. This therefore allows the researcher to propose classroom conversation practice as a supplementary technique to help students to develop oral fluency in English.

Moreover, this study has assessed the teachers'qualification though identification to see if they are skilled enough to motivate their learners because without motivation it is very difficult to expect good results from the teaching-learning process.
Recommendation were finally given to all people involted in the teaching/learning domain and in education in general,to do their best to make the spoken English successful, given its importance in the world today.
