RESUME,

This study " Constrastive Analysis between English and Kirundi Formal and Informal Styles " aims at analyzing English and Kirundi formal and informal styles. It is based on the hypothese thatt Kirundi are distant languages having similarities and differences between their formal and informal styles. In my study, I was guided by two research questions that were answered all along my research:
I. hOW CLOSE OR DISTANT ARE kirundi and English? What are the similarities between English and Kirundi formal and informal Styles and what are the differences between English and Kirundi formal and informal languages? To find answers to those questions, Students of Department of English Language and Literature were distributd a questionnaire using the simple random sampling technique for students. In addition to students' answers, the speech of Barack Obama and Pierre Nkurunziza helped me to conclude that Kirundi and English are totally distant; regarding how they have similarities and differences as far as formal and informal languages are concerned; I ended this research by formulating some recommendations to different persons who are concerned by this issue. The leading recommendation goes to future researchers who are called up on to do more research to constrative analysis between various aspects of Kirundi and English.
