RESUME,

This work investigates the importance of learning vocaburary in improving the English Writing skill in scientific sections of selected secondary schools in Bujumbura city,this study was guided by three aims.Firstly,it investigates if limited knowledge in vocabulary can negatively impact the development of students' writing skill.Secondly it explores the reason why students need to know various meanings of words when writing and last the third aim is about to know oif there are vocabulary Learning strategies that can allow students to be sussessful in writing.In order to find out the relevance of the mentioned aims,
Two tests were given to the participants in this study.The first was made of a questionnaire sent to students of scientific sections who are in 2 end form.The second was an interview given to teachers of English in 2 nd form scientific sections in Bujumbura city.Descriptive analysis of answers from my participants in this work highly valued the importance of learning vocabulary in improving the English writing skill.Morever,descriptive analysis of vocaburary learning strategies demonstrated that besides active use of a dictionary ,guessing and note-taking strategies,frequent use of visual aids is very significant in learning vocaburary.The findings also revealed that the learning of vocabulary and the writing skill are highly related what the effective way to enable students in scientific sections of secondary schools to become successful in the writing skill,is to teach them very well vocabulary and multiply exercises of writing for them in order to ensure that those students can well use all words that are taught in a context when writing.
