RESUME,

This study deals with the evaluation of the primary school learners' English performance in a four -language teaching system. The main concern of this study is to evaluate how English as language is performed when it is taught concurrently with Kirundi,French, and Kiswahili. The present study was curried out with eleven (11) teachers of selected primaty shools in Musongati Commune in Rutana Province, six (6) head teachers as well as four hundred seventy-eight (478) learners from the same area during the classroom observation. It will contibute to the promotion of eaching English as language in primary schools. This study is based on four assumptions. The first is:the learners of primary schools especially those in second degree do not have the capacity to learn English with other languages, the second is:teachers in second degree are not able to teach English successfully because they do not have the qualification to do so,the third:sufficient and relevant materials are needed to facilitate the work of teachers and learners in their activities, the last:there is importance to teach English at the same time with other languages to the primary school learners. In this research learners of primary schools especially those in second degree do not have the capacity to learn English with other languages since they still mix languages and there is also a language interference.Teachers in second degree are not able to teach English successfully because they are not qualified in English. The adequate materials are needed to facilitate the teaching/ learning process helps the learners since the continuous learning process helps the learners to perform English little by little .This work recommends the qualified English teachers and the multiplication of adequate materials to facilitate the teaching/learning process.
