RESUME

The English language has a great impact on the Kirundi spoken by repatriated refugees in Rumonge Commune. It is in this light that I conducted a study on this issue. This research aims a highlighting how repatriated refugees use the Kirundi loan words from English. The investigation was conducted in some repatriated refugee transit sites in Rumonge commune. I chose the informants in those sites using the simple random sampling method. The informants included a grat number of illiterate people of all genders. A questionnaire was used as an instrument of data collection whereas the reconrding had been avoided by our informants for the reason of their security. As findings reveal it, the English llanguage has a great impact on the Kirundi language spoken by the repatriated refugees of Rumonge commune. For exemple, the word "Ishati" is the modified Kirundi from an English word "shirt". The word "inayifu" is the modifed Kirundi from the English word "knife" and its original Kirundi is "Intambi". The word "Ibiya" is the modified Kirundi from an English word "beer" and its borrowed Kirundi is "Ikiyeri", the word "Ibesani" is the modified Kirundi from an English word "Basin" and its borrowed Kirundi is "Isiniya", the word "iti" is also the mofified Kirundi from an English word "tea" and its borrowed Kirundi word is "Icayi" the word "Igerasi" is the modified Kirundi from an English word "glass" and its borrowed Kirundi is "Ikirahuri", the word "futubori" is the modified Kirundi from an English word "football" and its original Kirundi is "umupira w'amaguru". The word "umuboyi" is the modified Kirundi from an English word "houseboy" whereas its borrowed kirundi is "umuboyi", the word "itike" is the modified kirundi word from an English one "ticket" and its borrowed Kirundi word is "itike". In addition, the word "burengeti" is the modified Kirundi form an English word "blanket" and its borrowed Kirundi word is "uburengeti". Therefore, the word "koboyi" is the modified Kirundi from an English word "cow boy" and its borrowed Kirundi is "ikoboyi". These are some findings among many which are located in chapter four. I tried also to make some recommendations to various factors such as to the teachers, to the Burundian governement, to every Burundian, to the repatriated refugees and to the future researchers.
