Résumé,

The work above is made up of five chapters. The first chapter General introduction gives an overview of the work. It describes the background to the study, the statement of the problem, the aims of the study, the research questions, the research hypotheses, the motivation of the study, the scope and delimitation of the study and the definition of key terms.

The second chapter Review of related literature reviews the exising literature. Indeed, this chapter shows the advantages of teaching and learning, the speaking and listening skills and some strategies to develop them. It also shows a criticism to the factors hindering the improvement of English as oral communicative language in First Form Arts section. The third chapter Research Methodology presents the data collection procedure and the data analysis procedures. The fourth chapter Data presentation, Analysis, Interpretation of the Findings shows clearly the verification for both the research questions and research hypotheses stated in the work at hand; whether they match well with the results provided by the research instruments used. Furthermore, it is withim this chapter that. A proposal of speaking and listening programs is suggested.
Moreover, it is within this chapter that the researcher has provided examples of how to improve speaking and listening skills by using communicative activities and instructonal materials according to the students' interest and objectives.
The fifth chapter deals wth General Conclusion and Recommendations. It concludes the work and formulates recommendations respectively to the course designers, the government, the English teachers and students of First Form Arts Secton, the National Examination planners and the future researchers to help develop students' first Form Arts proficiency in oral/aural skills.
