Strategies to improve the speaking skill among primary school teacher trainees

Much research has been done in the field of English teaching and learning. This has been motivated by the fact that knowing a language is necessary. On the one hand, the main feature which separates humans from other beings to the ability to use language in a way of communication. On the other hand. language is the main tool for facilitating the exhange of information etween members of a given speach community. This exchange of information among humans can be done orally or in a written way. For the effective communication, therefore, it is quite understandable that eople must possess developed skills into languages.

In the teachng learning process of foreign languages, however, developed skills depend upons a number of factors including the kinds of methods used to teach learners, the attitudes of these learners as well as the strategies they use in acquire those foreign languages.

As far as this study is concerned, the way the English course is taught in Burundian secondary schools in general and in the teacher training section in paricular does not enable studients to effectively master the speaking skill. This is due to a number of factors including some of those mentioned above.

This work is, therefore, a contribution to the finding of strategies to improve the speaking skill among Burundian learners in general and among Primary School Teacher STrainees inparicular. Anyway, the basis of development in any country is the quality of the educational system. So, the training of qualified teachers, especially sthose at the low level of education is a way of ensuring the probability of getting a large number of people who can actively participate to the development of a country.
