BIBLIOTHEQUES DE L'UNIVERSITE DU BURUNDI

Catalogue en Ligne des Bibliothèques de l'Universite du Burundi

This work examines the issues of religion and cultural alienation in Cheikh Hamidou Kane's Ambiguous Adventure. It seeks to examine the path to education and how education leads to alienation.

The work is structured into five sections : the general introduction, three chapters and the general conclusion.

The choice of this work has been motivated by the behavioural attitude of the young and educated Burundians whose tendency is to alienate from their culture for the benefit of a foreign one.

Our discussion has been carried out using the postcolonial theory, to highlight the western depictions of the Orient and what the latter needs from the former with reference to the protagonist of the study while undergoing his education in the western world. This approach has helped to demonstrate that western education has been the source of the protagonist's estrangement from his culture and social values.

Apart form analysing the impact of western education on the protagonist, the work makes recommendations about praising and preserving one's culture and social values for the purpose of solidarity in the society.
