A Topic "A phonological Analysis of the Impact of Kirundi on Secondary school Learners ' Oral Performance in English. A Case Study in Selected Secondary Schools in Bururi province" is carried out to identify speech sounds found in English but lacking in Kirundi, to show how these speech sounds affect that there are many English sounds which do not exist in Kirundi. Therefore, the learner of English tends to substitute the English speech sounds by Kirundi ones which are closer to thern. We have also shown while analyzing data that such situation could not help affecting the learners' performance since the communication or message can be disorted.

While analyzing the data collected from the field, it has been clear that the pronunciation of certain English vowel and consonant sounds and the use of prosodic featues such as stress and intonastion cause a great problem to students. Students rely only on their mother tongue phonological categories into the target language. The substitution, deletion, insertion, confusion, and overgeneralization of sounds are some of the greatest problems that the learners encouter in the learning of English.

A number of recommandations have been addressed to the stakeholders in the teaching domain, Namely to the goverment, teachers, and further investigators. A particular effort should be done in order to increase the oral proficiency of learners.
