RESUME,
This work is to find out major problems that hinder the effective teaching and learning of English in rural day schools.The work was conducted in CANKUZO province and the researcher investigated on teaching and supportive materials to supplement the teacher's effort when teaching English,students' attitudes towards English and English part-time teaching system.
For this,three research questions and hypotheses were formulated to guide this study,Through this research ,it was found out that teaching and learning to the required quoficiency level was not being achieved because the lack of teachingmaterials,students,negative attitudes and the part-time teaching affects negatively the students performance.The reseacher recommended that the parteners concerned with education should avail to schooks required materials.Teachers shouldendeavor to develop within the students'positive attitudes towards the English language.The ministry of education should set policy that can overcome the diverse effects of pat-time teaching in general and English part-time teaching in particular.
