RESUME,
Alcoholism is one of the leading causes of health, social and economic problems.Eradication of alcoholism could make the community realize its well-being.This research investigates the effects of alcoholism. This paper tries to expose the consequences of alcoholism on development in Burundian society. The research covers Gisuru commune. The researcher found out that disorderly conduct, economic insecurity, intoxication, emotional and behavioral disorders, lazines and fatal alcohol syndrome are the major effects of alcoholism in Gisuru Commune.Alcoholism which is the excessive use of alcohol decreases if members of the community contribute to fighting this social evil.It is true that people do not share the same views about alcoholism but being drunk is not an excuse for some one to commit a misdeed or a crime. That is why people should consider alcoholism as a social and not an individual problem.
