Résumé,

This study aims at assessing the role of teachers in overcoming psychological problems for an effective learning of the English speaking skill. This work was motivated by the fact learners are not good at speaking English. In order to assess some psychological problems that hinder the learning process of the English speaking skill, the work has to answer three research questions concerning learners 'needs that have to be satisfied while learning the speaking skill, psychological problems and how the teaching of the speaking skill helps them to satisfy their needs. This study was conducted in Bujumbura Municipality. Four teachers and eighty-four learners were used as informants throughout this work. The data were collected using questionnaire given to both teachers and learners. After the analysis and interpretation of the collected data, the researcher found out that there are problems not only in the teaching of the English speaking skill but also in the learning of it. The lack of teaching materials, the attitudes of teachers towards the learners, the attitude of the latter towards English and the speaking skill in particular are some of the factors that negatively affect the learning process of the English speaking skill. Finally, the researcher has given some recommendations to different partners.
