The study examines manifestations, consequences and solutions to dictatorship as proposed by the poet.
The work highlights the political, economic and social oppression and marginalization of the rulers. Through his poems in Songs of the Marketplace Niyi Osundare presents injustices and oppressions suffered by the dispossessed people in contemporary Nigeria. This work is writte, based on the hypothesis that the dictatorship in Niyi Osundare's songs of the Marketplace brings about political, economic and social consequences? Written against the Marxist literary criticism and neo-colonialism theories, this work seeks to show the history of class struggle and exploitation of man by man. The appropriate way to settle dictatorship is a leadership based on princuples, integrity and dignity that considers all society members as equal to social inheritance.
