Résumé,

This thesis sets out to examine emasculation as faced by Ayi Kwei Armah's characters in The Beautyful ones Are Not yet Born. This is done by examining the impact of western beliefs imitation of African elites and the masses during the post-independence period in Ghana. This work therefore investigates the causes and consequences of emasculation . It is based on the hypothetical contention that during the post-independence period in Ghana elites perpetuated the white man's ideologies and consequently, the masses became victims of the existing status quo. Written on the backdrop of the post-colonial and Marxist theories especially the tenets of mimicry, and alienation" , heroic characters are made up of individuals whose preoccupation is to revolt to effect change. This work settles on the note that, as long as African leaders continue to imitate western ideologies and worship materialism, Africa can never be fully independent in general and Ghana in particular as in The Beautyful Ones Are Not Yet Born.
