Resume,

This work tilled "Realism in Mark Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" examines how Twain makes use of elements that seem to be drawn from real life. It examines the verisimilitude between elements in the novel and the elements encountered in real life. Our study tries to expose Twain as a realist in this novel. It attempts to prove the hypothesis that by depicting the society of his time Mark Twain through his novel The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, he makes use of elements that seem to be drawn from reality and by so doing he can be qualified as a realist writer. It further proves that Twain's The Adventures of Tom Sawyer uses characters, events and the settings that resemble those encountered in real life. Our study seeks to awaken people in general and some Africans in particular to a lucid judgment towards their society and notice their responsibilities towards the problems faced by their societies.
