Résumé,

This work aims at providing a pragmatic interpretation of one Kirundi song of the category of Inanga, analyzed taking into account its illocutionary acts in order to decode not only the literal and social meaning of its corpus but also is possible interpretation and effects on the hearers.

This, because Kirundi language sometimes uses figurative expressions, especially in this song, which need to be decoded. The fulfillment of this study was possible due to qualitive research which employed various methods such as written questionnaires and direct observation. Through this study, it has been found out that the Kirundi traditional song under study encloses a hidden meaning where it teaches the listener how malaria is a life threatening disease and attacks through the bite of a mosquito but also the way people shall prevent themselves from it. The song goes far and teaches also the importance of the role of Ubushingantahe in bringing out solutions to any matter in the society.
