RÉSUME,

This work titled ˂˂ Problems Encountered in the Teaching of English Language Vocabulary to Pupils of 7th Forms in Burundi: case of selected Schools of Ntahangwa Commune in Bujumbura City ˃˃ aimed at investigating problems encountered in the teaching of ENglishh lmanguage vocabulary to Seventh Form pupils. This study was conduted in Ntahangwa Commune thtough the following research hypotheses: (1) teachers of English language encounter many problems when they teach English vocabulary items to 7ᵗʰ Form pupils. (2) teachers do not look for means of eradicating the problems they encounter in the teaching of English vocabulary to 7ᵗʰ Form pupils. (3) there are techniques an English language teacher should use when he is teaching English vocabulary items to 7ᵗʰ Form pupils. In correcting the data, the researcher used two techniques: a questionnaire was sent to eight teachers of eight selected schools of Ntahangwa commune and also a classroom observation was carried out in order to chech if what was the informants stated was true or not. This study found out that 7ᵗʰ Form English teachers encounteres many problems when they teach vocabulary items to 7ᵗʰ Form learners; here, the lack of sufficient and adapted teaching materials (books) was a very serious problem; the intention is that the texts from that book contain many words which are very difficult to teach and to learn. In order to iproot the problems, various solutions among which a revision of the book they use, were proposed. Finally, the last chapter deals with the general conclusion on the study and brings out recommendations directed to the Government of Burundi in general and to the Ministry of Education in particular, to the programme designers especially B.E.P.E.F, to the English teachers, to the pupils as well as to the further researchers.
