An Assessment of learner's needs in english language learning the case of the 7th form english learners in Muha commune

Résumé,

This study sets out to find the Learner's needs in English language Learning in 7th Form classes. This work testd three hypotheses stated as the following : 10 The methodology used in 7th Form classes does not enhance effective teaching/learning of English.

2o Good training and preparedness are lacking among 7th Form teachers of English.

3o English teaching materials for 7th Form classes are unsuitable and insufficient for effective learning of English, In order to find answers to those stated hypothèse, the researcher decided to carry out a research on différent approaches and needs involved in the 7th Form English learners. Thus, the study was carried out in four Schools such as : Lycée de la Convivialité de Kanyosha, VIP Schools de Kanyosha, lycée Municipal de Kanyosha and Ecole Technique Fondamentale de Ruziba. From all those 4 Schools, 4 English teachers and 33 learners were choses randomly. To collecte data, two instruments were used : classroom direct observation in order to prove the reality on the field and questionnaire for teachers and pupils without forgetting the pilot study, by this, the research was able to confirm the validity of these instruments.

In the light of the research findings, the researcher found out that for the first hypothesis, the researcher found out that the teaching methods used in 7th classes varied from one teacher to another, from one lesson to another. However, the choice of a particular method to be used is conditioned by the materials at one's disposal. For the second hypothesis, the researcher found out that most of teachers of 7th Form classes are not qualified. For the third hypothesis, the researcher found out that the lack of materials is a big problem in Burundi. Finally, some recommendations were formulated towards the different partners of education for the improvement of teaching/learning of English.
