Résumé,

This work intends to give an awareness and insight into the gragmatic features in Rwagasore Electoral Victory Speech. This is done with the view to determine the speaker's intention to the pragmatic choice and function of language in the political speachers. The data were drawn from the Electoral Victory Speech of 19th September 1961 and analyzed following the speech Act Theory of Austin (1962) and Searle (1969). The study was based on the following research questions.

1. What are the main contexts found in the Rwagasore Electoral Victory Speech?

2. What are the Speech Act Types that are used in Rwagasore Electoral Victory Speech?

3. What is the impact of Rwagasore's Electoral Victory Speech on Burundi?

After the analysis, it was found that the speech under study contains three main contexts such as context of peace, context of unity and reconciliation and the context of the country development. The tabular presentation of the analysis are drawn to show the Overall Relative Frequencies of the speech acts and their percentages. Commissive : 60%, Assertive : 55% and Directive : 30% These results show that in this speech, Rwagasore relied more on the utterances performing commissive and assertive acts than other speech acts. The use of these speech acts has dominantly the perlocutionary effect of Hopefulness and Happiness.
