RESUME,

This study investigated the difficulties that teachers and learners encounter while teaching and learning the English writting skill. The present work aimed at identifying those difficulties as a contribution to the improvement of the English writing skill. It sought to verify the following research hypotheses:1) teachers and learners give little room to the English writing skill,2) the materials available for use and the time allotted to the teaching and learning do not allow the effectiveness of the teaching/learning of the English writing skill,3) there are strategies and teaching skill. The population of this work was made up of both teachers and learners in First Form Arts classes precisely teachers and learners in Rango and butaganzwa.Eighty seven students (87 students) and four teachers (4teachers) from four different schools were the stakeholders of this work.Data were collected using two kids of instruments:questionnaire administrated to both teachers and learners and
classroom observation. The data were analysed by comparing students' answers before confronting students' and teachers' responses.Findings revealed that the English writing skill is not given enough room in the teaching/learning of the English language .Furthemore teaching/learning materials and teaching/learning time affect negatively the process of teaching and learning. As solution to those defects, teachers resorted to photocopying texts which was not easy beacause students had not equal meabs. It was also revealed through data collect from stakeholders that strategies like providing preparation exercices wich lead systematically students to the real tackling of the work, the use of realia wich help students know what they have to do and the discussion o the topic under study which permits the exhange of ideas should be undertaken by the teachers to help his/her learners do their work properly. This work also made recommendations to teachers, learners, the staff planning the curricula and the government.
