Résumé,

This study was concerned with an assessment of the learning of the English listening comprehension skill at the University of Burundi for BAC II/LAP students. To collect the data, the students' questionnaire and classroom observation were used as research instruments . As research respondents, a number of 42 students were selected among a total number of 172 Students. To carry out this researh, three research hypotheses were formulated as follows : (1) The students of BAC II/IAP meet various difficulties such as the lack of an adequate sociolinguistic environment, the lack of ICTs teaching materials in the listening skill, (2) the learning conditions and the student's attitude affect the learning process of the English listerning skill, (3) learners need to frequently listen to downloaded authentic English audio files in their free time and develop extensive reading skill in order to enhance their English listening comprehension skill. After analyzing the data collected, it was found that the students of BAC II suffer from a lack of the English linguistic environment, the socio-economic conditions, the lack of ICT materials, the students' French background as a language of instruction at secondary school and the students' attitude affect BAC II students' learning process of the listening skill. Thus, to overcome these difficulties some strategies were given such as to listen frequently to English audio files, to read books extensively as well as to use the ICTs for listening purposes. Further research was recommended to explore the teachers' strategies for the enhancement of the listening skill.
