Résumé,

The main concern of this work was to evaluate the students' ability to write English in all its writing aspects, the students' writing difficulties and the strategies used to overcome those difficulties. The study was carried out in the two post basic schools. The class targeted was Second Year in the Language section in Buyengero and Rumonge Communes where thirty-seven participants were involved as the population sample ( thirty-five students and two teachers).

The research was conducted on the basis of three research hypotheses. The students of Birimba St Augustine and Mbizi High Schools are able to write English in all its writing aspects.
The students face some problems in writing skills such as : ungrammatical sentences, interference, bad teaching methodology and lack of adequate materials.
The Teachers encourage the students to rely on translation strategies, focus on cognitive and affective factors, use of dictionary and students' centered techniques to enhance their creativity. During the research, the researcher used a teacher's questionnaire, a student's questionnaire, a classroom observation and a writing test. Finding showed that students of Second Year Languages Section were able to write English in all its writing aspects.

They made errors such as inappropriate vocabulary, wrong spelling, grammatical errors, and literal translation. The writing process itself is handicapped by the lack of interaction between learners themselves and their teachers and the lack of up-to dated teaching materials. It is then in this light that a number of recommendations were made at the end of this work to the Government, especially the Ministry of Education to Employ qualifies English, to equip secondary schools libraries with enough teaching/learning materials. The teachers have to use the appropriate teaching methodology. The students should attend literacy course and make much effort in reading so as to enrich their English vocabulary which is compulsory for improving their writhing in English.
