RESERVE,

This work discusses the issue of polygamy in the Igbo society through Flora Nwapa's Idu.It reveals causes and consequences of this practice. This study also aims at awakening community members by showing them how polygamous marriage may be the source of serious troubles when it is not well-planned and prepared.Written against the background of psychonalytic and feminist theories, this work affirms that both men and women are affected by the drawbacks of this practice.Basing our argument on flora Nwapa's Idu,his study is built on the hypothesis that sensitization, government involvement and mind-set change are solutions to people victimized by the impacts of polygamy.
our work concludes that if people are thoroughly sensitized and informed about critical consequences of polygamy, they think deeply before engaging in this practice. This should enable them to handle it well for the sake of mainteining peace and harmony in the family as well as in the entire society.
