RESUME,

This study investigates on the availability and use of English teaching and learning materials during the teaching and learning process in Burundi public secondary schools in general and in Burundi public post basic schools in particular.The study was conducted in Mwumba public post basic schools.In this research,two hypothe=heses were tested.The first is stated as follow:the absence of teaching materials hinders the learning of English skills in Mwumba public post basic schools whereas the second research hypothesis is stated as follow:The teaching materials influence the successful teaching and learning of English.340 pupils and 11 teachers were used as respondents in this study.To collec data,the learners'questionnaire and the teachers' questionnaire were used.The data analysis was done by means of tables and percentage.
Through this research,it was found out that teaching and learning of english to the required proficiency levels was not achieved because of the lack of teaching and learning materials and other supportive ressources.Learners do not perform well in English language skills,the teaching and learning materials are very important and significant in the teachers'and pupils' achievent of their goals.
The ministry of education was recommended to avail all the instructional materials because of their importance in supporting the teachers' efforts in the process of teaching and learning.
