Résume,
as any language spoken all over the world, Kirundi language is not homogeneous. There are différent varieties of Kirundi depending on many reasons such as geographical, social and historical ones. All Burundians cannot understand all words spoken by kumoso people. Hence, the present work entitled " A Sociolinguistic Analysis of the Kimoso Dialect Spoken Kinyinya in Ruyigi Province " seeks to find lexical, phonological and cultural differences between a dialect spoken at kinyinya and standard kirundi. To achieve this, the informants were selected using a number of criteria such as, the level of education, the age and place of birth, the instruments used to collect data included the interview using a tape recorder, questionnaire, as well as observation. This study revealed that there are différences between Kimoso dialect spoken at Kinyinya and standard Kirundi at different levels such as lexical, phonological and cultural aspects due mainly to the influence of the languages spoken in Tanzania. I concluded this work by recommending further researchers to conduct studies on other Kirundi dialects spoken in Burundi.
