RÉSUME,
Most young English learners are still facing difficulties en speaking skill and feel less motivated to improve their speaking abilities. This work was carried out in some selected private schools in Bujumbura city and attempted to collect challenges related to the speaking skill from both pupils and teachers. It focused on pupils of the 9ᵗʰ grande who are on the edge of Fundamental and Post-Fundamental levels. The main purpose was to address existing challenges for the implementation of the speaking skill to young learners. As result, the ressearch came out with certain factors that hinder the development of the speaking skillsuch bas the lack of adequate and sufficient teaching materials, insufficiency of the time for speaking in class, inappropriateness of certain methodologies, and to some extent; the lack of motivation among learners. Therefore, the work ends in recommendations to students, teachers, the Ministry of education, and to the Government because it was realized that all of them are factors for the promotion and empowernent of the speaking skill in young English learners.
