RESUME,

This work at comparing and interpreting the results of pupils sin state examination. It is structured around four hypotheses:(1) factors influencing the pupils' success in state examinations are teaching material, teachers experience, class size, attitude towards learning, teaching time,etc;(2) Boarding school pupils and day school pupils do not have the same attitude towards the state examination, and boading schools do not perform at the same extent in english state Examination. It was carried out in six day schools and 5 boarding schools in Ngozi province. While carrying out this study, two types of questionnaires for pupils and teachers were distributed.10 teachers ,5 are teachers in day schools and other 5 are teachers in boarding schools. As pupils are concerned,164 are boarders while 230 are day pupils. At the end of the research it has been found out that boarding school pupils perform better than day school pupils. This is because boading school students have many facilities such as availability of qualifiedand experienced teachers,Teaching materials, small class size, etc.it has also been out that some of the English teachers are not aware of the different types of tests.
