RESUME,

The present work deals with the problems encountered in speaking perormance of English by pupils of first form.The primary aim of my research is to discover the main problems that hinder the English perfomance in first form Arts section of Tora Lycée and Vyuya communal lycéé in Mugamba Commune.The data were collected by means of questionnaire given to learners.Forty learners.Forty learners participated as informants in this study.Throughout this research,it was found out that Burundian society manifests a negative attitude to a Burundian who is speaking English,considering him/her as boastful.In fact our respondent confirmed that peaple who speak English in Burundi in Burundi are considered as being boastful.In addition,the Burundian learners are afraid of making mistakes and then being laughed at.Finally the study has proven that the Burundian English learners think that English language is more difficult to learn and to speak than Frech and Kirundi.
