This study is focused on some of the factors affecting performance in the English productive skills.It aims at identifying some of the factors that hinder the students' performance in speaking and writing skills .The researcher formulated the research questions well as well as the hypotheses which he wished to confirm or reject at the end of the work.Informants were first year students in the english departements at ENS and IAP together with lecturers of writing and speaking skills in these classes .Data were collected on thebasis of written questionnaires ,and after a careful analysis and interpretation of the data,findings revealed that there is a significant impediment of the linguistic environment does not allow students to practice English,in addition,the teaching/learning materials are not varied and sufficient,and the time allotted to those skills is not sufficient for a better mastery of productive skills.Thus,curricula in the English departements at ENS and IAP should be revised in order to give sufficient time to practice in the productive skills;students and lectures should be provided with varied and sufficient learning/teaching materials such as language laboratories,libraries,and computers,together with extracurricular activities that can help students to improve their English productive skills.
