RESUME,

The aim of this work is to find out problems affecting the English speaking skill teaching in five selectes schools in Cankuzo Commune so as to prove whether or not there factors behind the pupils' inability to communicatre fluently and effectively in and effectively in and beyond the classroom. The research was done in Cankuzo Commune and it was restricted to the Lycée Myaga, Lycée Communal de Cankuzo, Lycée Espoir de Cankuzo, lycée NDava and Lycée Stafford de Muterero. The researcher worked with five English teachers and fifty two pupils of 1ˢᵗ form Arts to get data to justify his hypotheses. The researcher used the questionnaires given to five selected school English teachers and pupils of 1ˢᵗ form Arts to get data which would justify the hypotheses. They had to complete and finally handed them to the researcher for analysis. The results from tha data showed that most of the teachers do not use appropriate methodology while teaching the speaking skill. They also do not have enough time to involve their pupils in communicative activities. The didactic materials are mainly classroom English books-based. As English is a foreign language which must be learnt at school, the teachers should involve the pupils in the activities like debates to make them communicatively creative. The curriculum designers sjould also provide schools with appropriate oral teaching materials and adjust the time given to english course regarding its four skills in order not to have some of them not taught. The researcher expects all the people involved in the teaching domain to do their best to make English language teaching successful especially the spoken form given its importance in the world today.
