RESUME,

This study sets out to investigate on identify and analyze the errors made in grammar and how studentsthis problem. This work intended then to test a number of hypotheses that were formulated for this study. To find answers to the stated questions, the researcher decided to carry out a survey on error making. The teachers' questionnaire was personally administered to find out the way they deal with their pupils' errors. Pupils' questionnaire was also distributed to find outt how Burundi Basic School teaches/learners handle this problem and commit themselves for the correction of their errors. A sample of 6 teachers and 60 pupils was selected from some selected schools in Rumonge Province. The study was carried out among teachers and their pupils pf different communes of the province. The research findings show that students make errors of different kinds, that is: Students generalize the rules by adding an "s" on every verb in present simple tense on the 3ʳᵈ person in singular and pupils generalize the rules of negative form by adding " not " after each main verb. Pupils also put "s" on every word to make plural from. A number of recommendations were made for the teachers, students and the govenment through the Ministry of Education, the currimulum designers and different authorities responsible for English language teaching in Burundi.
