RESUME,

This study examines the patriarchy and the reaction of woman in Mariama Ba's So Long a letter. It exposes areas through which patriarchy subjugates women and the path women choose to resist this oppression. Hence, this work is predicated on the hypothesis that the oppression done against women in So Long a Letter creates a spirit of consciousness amiong women and leads them to adoptdifferent methods to freedom. Written withinthe tenets of Feminism, this study concludes that the suffering women endure under a patriarchy can force women to resist using different ways. This work will therefore create awareness among both men and women to know that the role of women in the soviety is important and thus they should be treated with respect and be allowed to exercise their talents in the interesr of all.
