RESUME,

This study on " Problems Encountered by Day-school Students in their Learning and Use of the English Language" aimed at assessing the factors that have an impact on the learning and use of English language among day-school learners. The study investigated on the way in which day-school and boarding school learners face different hindrances in their learning and use of English language. The study looked at failur and success in the learning and use of the English language taking into account familly socio-economic conditions, linguistic environment, and learning time factors. The research was conducted on the basis of three hypotheses') Familly socio-economic status is a handicap to the learning and use of and use of English among day-school pupils; b) Learnrs' linguistic environment is a hindrance to the proper learning and use of the English lanuage among day-school pupils; c) Learning time deficiency is a handicap to proper English language learning and use among day-school pupils. As a result of our research, it was found out that family socio-economic status affects negatively the learnin and use of English for day-school learners. Moreover, the researcher found that linguistic environment is another factor that affects negatively the learning and performance of English language for day-school learners. Furthermore, it was found that the learning time deficiency is a setback to the English language learning and use among day-school learners. In the light of that, and in the perpective of providing opportunities for an improvement of the English language learning and use among day-school learners, some recommendations were formulated to the Ministry of Education, to headteachers, to Teachers, to parents, to learners and finally to prospective researchers.
