RESUME,

This studyset out to investigate the extent to which the sociolinguistic environment hampers the development of the English speaking skill in English.He also hypotheses that the physical ecolinguistic features are not conducive to the English learning in Nyanza-lac commune.Data were collected using observation inside and outside classroom,learners' home and surrounding observation inside and outside classroom,learners' home and surrounding observation,and ecolinguistic environment observations.Pupils' and teachers ' questionnaires were also used.After the analysis of data,the findings revealed that both home language and classroom sittings hamper the development of data,the findings revealed that both home language and classroom settings hamper the development of the speaking skill in English.The findings also revealed that the physical ecolinguistic features are not conducive to the English learning.Respective of this,it was concluded that pupils need to be provided with more opportunities for practice in speaking skill both in classroom and natural milieu.
