RESUME,

The present work sets out to examine the theme of devotion in Francis Selormey's the narrawow puth.It investigates the need for workers to commit themselves to their professions. This is done through the exploration of Nani's devotion to his profession in the novel under study.it also attempts to highlight different challenges to his devotion, and the consequences of his devotion as well.Written against the background of psychoanalytical approach, this writer situates the analysis of the novel within the context of post-colonial period of Ghana by means of the attitudes most people expressed towards their work.Basing our arguments on Selormey's the narrow path, this work is written based on the hypothesis that devotion requires to put puplic interests above the personal ones.
This study determines how the devotee willingly accepts to sacrifice his own interests including his family and his life. The devotee accepts to let the ego win over the id.Readers of this work would learn that despite the difficult challenges in one's profession,a devoted spitit always finds the way out. This work recommends to professionals in general and teachers in particular to be pround of their profession,to set good examples in terms of bihaviour towards their works and to sacrifice their time, energy, money, even their life for the welfare of their schools by any possible means.
