RESUME,

The present work sets out to assess the factors hindering fluency in spoken English among the First form Arts pupils in some selected Bujumbura city secondary schools.It firsly deals with the hindrance to fluency in English spoken form.Secondly,it suggests several ways of improving spoken English for those pupils.In an attempt to gather information from the research instruments.As the same classroom observations were made to get reliable and direct information.The two kings of instruments led me to conclude that pupils' linguistic environment,the psychological barriers,the lack of appropriate materials and the use of inadequate teaching techniques are the main factors which negatively affect many pupils' improvement of English oral skill.Some recommendations were directed to program designers ,to teachers,to pupils and to future researchers.
