This thesis aims at examining existentialist traits and the relationship between male and female in D.H Lawrence's The Rainbow. In the course of this study, we tried to locate the text in the existentialist conception of war, marriage, economy, and other societal problems. The work therefore showed the existential tendency through the relationship between the characters in the novel.
This work also focused on the evolution of European women's conditions in patriarchal web and how they survive within the confines of existential life as found in D.H Larwrence's the Rainbow.Built on a Feminist and New Historicism framework, this study aims at identifying motives behind conflicts between the sexes, and analyzing human being in society.
That despite the sex-based limitations women encounter in their struggle for self-assertion,they prove that things wwill not remain alike for eternity and they aspire to built a fair and inclusive world. It is in this regard that Lawrence writes to stimulate not only women, but all europeans to awake europe throught women's liberation.
