A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the award of the degree of Licence en Langue et LittératureAnglaises.

This work sets out to examine that war and its consequences on Fitzgerald's the Great Gatsby and Julius Ocwinyo's Fate of the Banished.It is situated within the challenges faced by some characters such as Gatsby,Myrtle in de Gatsby and Apire,Father Dila,Flo in Fate of the Banished as result of death.
In this light,our work looks at some problems encountered by some of thecharacters in terms of relationship between lovers during the war since the war creates problems and separates couples.Both Fitzgerald and Ocwinyo present most of their characters to display the rapacious nature of men in their quest for possession and hapiness which ,most of the time,is unsuccessful.We are shown that both the maincharacters.
It also attemps to show readers the shoti=coming of the war in the human life.THIS study is written based on the assumption that the caracters in Fitzgerald's The Great Gatsby and julius Ocuinyo's Fate of the Banished suffer variedly from war.Using the new Historicism and Psychoanalytic Approach,this work concludes that the war in any society has negative consequences.
