A thesis submitted in partial fulfilment of the requirements for the degree "Licencié en Pédagogie Appliquée, Agrégé de l'Enseignement Secondaire en Anglais.

This work examines the indifference of laders to the problems of the masses and the struggle of the marginalised to free themselves from this leadership indifference as presented by Bediako Asare in Rebel. This is done by exposing the cunning attitude of the fetish priest and the ruler of pachanga.Through of Bediako Asare in Rebel, this work seeks to prove the hypothesis that suffering, struggle and rebellion are not natural phenomena, but the result of leaership indifference and human greed. It demonstrates to what extent Asare uses satire to expose and criticize leadership failure that has bedevilled the post-independant Ghana. Written against the background of New Historicism and Marxism, this work is a criticism which vieuws the masses' disenchantment and its aftermath;and therefore concludes that the oppressed would sooner or later stand up for their rights and fight against forms of manoeuvres and exploitation.
