ABSTRACT

This work is about a pragmatic study of the jargon used by students at ETS-KAMENGE The jargon words and expressions they use are coined on the different languages they learn at school but they lexical meanings are changed in order to mislead the outsiders.
The problem is them is then to become aware of their jergon, how they use it and for what goal.
When collecting the data, the whole population i.e all the students at ETS-KAMENGE should have been addressed to provide information. However,it was not possible to have access to each student. The number of informants had to be reduced by making a reasonable sample and at the end one hundred informants were selected.
After the data have been collected, they were analyzed on the different aspects such their formation processes, the semantic level and the style.Concerning the formation processes, the jargon proved to use mechanisms such as reduplication, coinage, borrowing, compounding and acronyms. As for the style, figures of speech such as metaphor, metonymy, hyperbole, euphemism, personification and antithesis are used. With regard to the semantic level, synonymy, polysemy and antonymy have been dealt with. The jargon is then used to keep secrets, strengthen the relationships and communicate without fear.
