RESUME,

The main goal of this study was to find out the problems encountered by primary school English teachers in Rusaka commune, mainly htose of first and second years. In order to achieve this objective, it was important to collect data from teachers, get informed if they are aware of these problems and what they are due to. Thus, to collect data, two instuments were used, i.e., a written questionnaire administered to teachers and classroom observation. The questionnaires were distributed to teachers of first and second years in selected primary schools of Rusaka commune and classroom observation was done within some schools. The findings showed that teachers are not well traines to teach English as sn F.L. In addition, the findings showed that teaching materials are not sufficient and a large number of pupils in a classroom is also a challenge for teachers. As a solution, were formulated to all education partners in order to improve English language teaching to pupils of first and second years of primary school. Furthermore, there is a suggestion made to other researchers to do further research in order to explore the problems in other parts of the country.
