RESUME,

This aim of this is to evaluate the English speaking skill teaching skill teaching in senior level of secondary public schools especially in first form arts section.The main concern was to determine what causes the poor communicative ability of the students of this level.The study was carried out with 70 respondents out of 212 and 3 teachers of selected public secondary schools in Bujumbura city by means of classroom observation and questionnaires.During our research,we found that the inappropriate methods used by teachers,and finally the lack of adequate textbooks for this skill were the sources of the poor performance of the students.Those weaknesses made us propose the ways through which the speaking skill should be taught in that level and recommendations were formulated in that perspective.
