RESUME,

In any learning or teaching process,both the learner and the teacher need guidelines in order to accomplish their task successfully.This study was concerned with errors students make while learning prepositions.The latter are great in number but worthwhile in communication.It was also aimed at pointing out the types and causes of these errors.This study was,therefore,conducted in some publiv secondary schools of Bujumbura municipality,especially those holding the 2 end form Arts.The data for the current research was collected by means of two different instruments i.e.a qeustionnaire which was made up of two kids of questionnaires:one for teachers and another one reserved for students.Then,a test made up of 2 kids of exercises was designed to seek for information about students' attitudes towards the use of prepositions whereby two copies out of three were considered for correction.Three research hypotheses were also formulated to guide the current study.Through which preposition in to be used on one hand ,and inserting one when it is not necessary on the other.Moreover,the main cause of learners 'errors is related to language interference,maily French interference with English.Finally,some recommendations have been formulated to guide future scholars as to other areas of research.
